Comedian Steve Martin learned how to play the banjo in his late teens. Sometimes, he would practice in his car with the windows up as to not disturb his family. It became a tool to show his comedy audiences that what he was doing required skill, and was not entirely “made up.” As he’s gotten older, Martin’s focus has shifted more from comedy to bluegrass. He now performs and records regularly with The Steep Canyon Rangers.
